Third arrest for Barton Highway drug seizure

A 39-year-old Moncrieff man is the third arrest made following a drug seizure on the Barton Highway.

On June 6, ACT Policing’s Drugs and Organised Crime Team (DOCT) conducted a search warrant on a vehicle being driven by a 33-year-old Phillip man on the Barton Highway, having just entered the ACT from NSW.

As a result of the warrant, DOCT seized five kilograms of methamphetamines, encrypted mobile devices and 500 grams of Boric Acid, a known cutting agent.

On June 13, DOCT executed a further search warrant at a business on Collie Street, Fyshwick, where a 38-year-old man was arrested.

He was charged with two counts of trafficking in a commercial quantity of a controlled drug, and participating in a criminal group.

Acting on information from the previous two incidents, DOCT executed a search warrant at a house in Moncrieff on June 15.

A mobile phone linking the 39-year-old Moncrieff man to the two previous incidents was seized, along with a CCTV hard drive and a quantity of a substance police believe to be steroids.

The 39-year-old was arrested, and has been charged with participating in a criminal group and failing to comply with an order pursuant to section 3LA of the Crimes Act 1914.

He is expected to face court on July 18.
