A 20-year-old Narrabundah man who has never held a licence and is already awaiting sentencing for a previous charge of driving without a licence, allegedly attempted to avoid arrest by moving to the back seat of his car when stopped by police.

Police say a patrol car pulled up behind a black Range Rover Evoke at the intersection of Flemington and Randwick Roads, Lyneham on Friday afternoon. The Range Rover driver ran the red light, narrowly avoiding a collision, before accelerating away on Flemington Road.

Police activated their lights and sirens, but the driver failed to stop, driving away at speed and crossing to the wrong side of the road. The vehicle stopped on Sandford Street, where officers allegedly witnessed the man moving from the driver’s seat into the back of the car.

He was arrested, and police checks revealed he had never held a licence and that he is already awaiting sentencing for a previous charge of driving without a licence.

He is charged with failing to stop for police, dangerous driving, not stopping at a red light, speeding, unlicensed driving (never held a licence) and breach of good behaviour obligations.
