Milligan wants a big screen for Matildas’ winter games

LIBERAL sport spokesman James Milligan is calling on the ACT government to support the Women’s World Cup Soccer with a big screen in Civic for Canberrans to watch the Australia games in July.

“It is disappointing that the chief minister decided not to bring any games to the ACT, but many members of the community that I speak with, especially at grassroots level, are wanting to support our fantastic Matildas,” Milligan said.

“Providing a space and a big screen for members of the community to gather and cheer on the Matildas would be a great way for Canberra to show our support.

“We saw recently with the Men’s World Cup a large number of Canberrans converge on Civic Square to watch Australia play Argentina.”

The Matildas take on Ireland on July 20, then Nigeria on Thursday July 27 and and Canada, July 31.

July, usually Canberra’s coldest month, has an average maximum daytime temperature of 12°C and a minimum average of 2.2°C.
