Anengkerr-penh/From the Dreaming, a free exhibition at the National Museum of Australia, explores the work and legacy of Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri, known to his Anmatyerr people as Peltharr, a ceremonial leader and one of Australia’s most significant artists.

Featuring works from the Museum’s collection, including the huge 1994 painting Kerrinyarra, the exhibition brings together paintings by Clifford Possum and other seminal Anmatyerr artists, alongside cultural objects made and used by Anmatyerr ancestors.

The exhibition also highlights contemporary Anmatyerr efforts to reconnect with and preserve cultural knowledge for future generations.

The exhibition is part of an ongoing collaboration between Anmatyerr people and the National Museum, with cultural guidance from community members in Laramba and support from the Anengkerr Anmatyerr Ingkantety project and Deakin University’s Jason Gibson.

Free curator-led tours are scheduled for Tuesday, but a waitlist is already in place here.

Anengkerr-penh/From the Dreaming, National Museum of Australia, free, open daily.
