Two sheep have died after intruders allegedly rounded up and deliberately injured animals during a burglary at a Tuggeranong rural property.

Police said several people attended the property, behind the pine forest adjacent to the Monaro Highway, on Wednesday evening.

With the assistance of dogs, they allegedly rounded up eight sheep and moved them into a holding pen, where several were deliberately injured.

One sheep died and another had to be euthanised because of the severity of its injuries.

The incident was discovered when the property owner arrived on Thursday morning and found the injured sheep.

Police said a residence on the property had also been entered and ransacked.

Investigators want to hear from anyone who noticed unusual activity on Wednesday evening on the eastern side of the Monaro Highway, between the paintball facility and the Johnson Drive roundabout.

They are also seeking information about vehicles entering or leaving Old Tuggeranong Road near the pine forest, particularly a grey Mazda hatchback or sedan from the late 1990s or early 2000s that was seen in the area.
