A 49-year-old man has been charged after allegedly repeatedly threatening to kill his former partner and members of her family.

Police allege the man called his former partner’s mother in August and threatened to kill her, his former partner and other family members.

The incident was reported to police and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Friday morning, police spotted the man’s Toyota HiLux on Kingsford Smith Drive in Higgins.

Police stopped the vehicle on Southern Cross Drive and directed the man to get out, but he refused.

Police allege the man continued to resist after officers removed him from the vehicle and a 19-year-old male passenger intervened in the struggle, despite being directed to stop. Both men were arrested.

The 49-year-old has been charged with four counts of aggravated intentionally threatening to kill a person, as well as using a carriage service to menace, resisting a territory public official and failing to comply with police directions.

The 19-year-old has been charged with attempting to obstruct a territory public official.
