Teen charged after 200km/h police pursuit

An 18-year-old Palmerston man has been charged after allegedly driving at more than 200km/h and fleeing police on Monday night.

Police spotted a black Range Rover on John Gorton Drive in Denman Prospect about 9.50pm before allegedly detecting it travelling at more than 200km/h in a 100km/h zone on the Tuggeranong Parkway.

The driver allegedly failed to stop for police, narrowly missed another vehicle and hit a roadside barrier before continuing towards Whitlam.

Police abandoned the pursuit because of the risk to public safety.

About 10pm, officers found the Range Rover entering a carpark at Higgins Oval and arrested the 18-year-old driver and his 17-year-old passenger.

The driver has been charged with failing to stop for police, aggravated dangerous driving, driving while suspended and failing to provide information to identify a driver.
