Students who will attend Canberra’s newest public school have helped inspire its new logo ahead of the school’s opening in Whitlam next year.

The Whitlam School logo features a multicoloured, patterned “W” incorporating shapes, colours and lines from drawings by students in its inaugural cohort.

The design was developed in consultation with former prime minister Gough Whitlam’s family, the school executive and the wider Whitlam community.

More than 340 responses were received online and in person on three design options, with principal Felicity Levett selecting the final logo.

The Molonglo Valley school is enrolling preschool to Year 2 students for 2027 and will eventually accommodate up to 780 students across all year levels.

The ACT Government is spending $101.7 million on the new school.
