The ACT Government has released a draft strategy to guide the future planning, construction and maintenance of skateparks across Canberra.
The Draft ACT Skate Strategy follows the 2022-2024 inquiry into skateboarding and skateparks, which was established after community petitions and made recommendations on improving skating infrastructure.
The strategy covers facilities used by skateboarders, BMX riders, scooter riders, rollerbladers and skaters, and proposes a long-term approach to providing safe and well-maintained facilities across Canberra.
Sport and Recreation Minister Chris Steel said the government wanted users and community groups to identify their priorities for skating infrastructure.
“We want to hear from the skating community and local community groups about their skating infrastructure priorities and how we can make Canberra a great home for skaters,” he said.
Feedback on the draft will inform the final ACT Skate Strategy.
