The City Health Building at 1 Moore Street remains closed as asbestos remediation continues, with the ACT Government unable to give a revised date for its reopening.

The building has been closed since late June after asbestos-containing material was identified in non-occupied areas. The government says subsequent testing has not detected asbestos-containing material in occupied areas under normal operating conditions.

However, the extent of asbestos found in non-occupied areas has prompted a comprehensive remediation program. A specialist contractor is removing identified material where required, cleaning affected areas and carrying out clearance testing, with independent verification also planned.

Infrastructure Canberra is assessing remediation and other building works needed before 1 Moore Street can be reoccupied. Any decision to reopen will depend on the completion of the works, testing and independent expert clearance.

Tenant agencies and service providers will continue operating under alternative arrangements while the building remains closed.
