A 38-year-old man has been charged after allegedly breaking into multiple storage cages at an Ainslie retirement village early on Friday.

Police allege a resident reported an intruder in the basement car park about 3am. Officers found multiple storage cages with damaged locks and doors before locating the man inside one of the cages.

Police say a search of the man’s belongings uncovered a knife, pry bar, gloves and other tools allegedly intended for theft.

He has been charged with burglary, going equipped for theft, possessing a knife without a reasonable excuse and two counts of unlawful possession of stolen property.
