A Macgregor man has been charged after allegedly trying to flee police on a stolen motorcycle before officers found burglary tools in his backpack.

Police say officers approached the rider in a Narrabundah car park about 2.50am on Monday and directed him to stop, but he allegedly tried to accelerate away.

The 30-year-old allegedly resisted arrest, with two officers suffering minor injuries during a brief struggle before he was handcuffed.

Police allege the man returned a positive alcohol screening test. A search of his backpack allegedly uncovered items associated with burglaries, while checks revealed the KTM motorcycle had been stolen.

He has been charged with failing to stop for police, riding a motor vehicle without consent, attempting to resist a territory official, going equipped for theft and driving with alcohol in his breath.
