Police swoop on speeders across Canberra

Police have caught several speeding and alleged drug drivers across Canberra in recent days, with two provisional licence holders among those facing lengthy licence suspensions.

A 17-year-old Bonner P-plater was caught allegedly travelling at 114km/h in an 80km/h zone on Horse Park Drive on Thursday night, while a 17-year-old Gungahlin P-plater was allegedly detected at 109km/h in a 70km/h zone on John Gorton Drive on Friday night. Both drivers were fined and will lose their licences for 90 days.

Also on Friday night, police stopped a 20-year-old Kambah man after allegedly detecting his car travelling at 97km/h in a 70km/h zone on John Gorton Drive. He allegedly returned a positive roadside drug test and will be summonsed to court.

Early on Saturday, police allegedly caught a 23-year-old Weetangera man driving at 129km/h in an 80km/h zone on Yarra Glen and Adelaide Avenue. His licence was immediately suspended for 180 days.
