A 31-year-old man has been charged after police allegedly found stolen jewellery worth about $11,000 when they discovered him asleep in a car on Hindmarsh Drive.
Police allege the man stole a display case containing about $20,000 worth of jewellery from a Woden store on June 23.
He also allegedly stole an employee’s handbag from another Woden jewellery store on Monday.
Police found the man asleep behind the wheel of a white Fiat Abarth with the engine running on Hindmarsh Drive about 1.15am on Tuesday.
A search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered jewellery, cards believed to have been stolen from the handbag, clothing with security tags attached and a small quantity of suspected methamphetamine.
The man allegedly returned a positive roadside drug test.
He has been charged with theft, unlawful possession of stolen property, possessing property suspected of being the proceeds of crime, driving under the influence and driving while unlicensed.
