Two women knocked unconscious in Civic

A 38-year-old man has been charged after allegedly assaulting his former partner and another woman during a confrontation in Civic early on Sunday morning.

Police allege the man was approached by his former partner and a family member on Mort Street at about 3.30am.

Following an altercation, police allege the man struck both women, knocking them unconscious.

A bystander who attempted to assist the women was also allegedly struck in the head.

Other witnesses stepped in to help before police arrested the man a short time later. A search of his belongings uncovered a bag containing a white powder substance suspected to be cocaine.

The man has been charged with family violence assault, assault, affray and possessing a drug of dependence.
