More than 20 retired racing greyhounds will be looking for new homes when a special adoption day is held in Mitchell next week.
The Greyhound Adoption Program (GAP) NSW will bring the dogs to All Round Good Hounds, 20 Essington Street, 9.30am-1pm, on Sunday, June 28, giving prospective owners the chance to meet the animals and learn more about the breed.
Visitors will be able to speak with adoption staff about the suitability of greyhounds as pets, their care requirements and the adoption process.
To encourage adoptions, GAP NSW is offering discounted adoption fees on the day, with the cost reduced to $75 from the usual $250.
Greyhounds are often promoted as low-maintenance pets, known for their calm temperament and suitability for apartment and suburban living despite their reputation as racing dogs.
Organisers say the event is aimed at helping more retired greyhounds find permanent homes while giving Canberrans the opportunity to interact with the breed before making a commitment.
