Police say a 32-year-old Wanniassa man took a packet of cigarettes from a Dickson grocery store staff member’s hand while they tried to scan the item and then became aggressive at a member of public who attempted to prevent his theft.
This was just one of multiple thefts in which it is alleged he stole more than $3000 worth of products from retail outlets across Canberra.
Between July 1 and September 26, police allege the man stole more than $1400 worth of goods from grocery stores and $1800 worth of high-end bedding over two days in August from a Civic department store.
He has been charged with 14 counts of minor theft and robbery, and will face court at a later date.
