Police taser man after city assaults

Police tasered a 22-year-old Richardson man on a good behaviour order as he tried to escape arrest after a series of assaults in Civic early on Sunday morning.

At about 1am in Garema Place, the man had approached a group of people including his former partner.

He is alleged to have pushed a man to the ground before stomping on his head, rendering him unconscious. He then allegedly dragged a woman, his former partner, by the hair and punched another woman.

Police say that in a nearby car park, the man then allegedly kicked and punched his former partner’s vehicle, causing significant damage.

The man was tasered then arrested following his attempted escape.

He was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, affray, common assault and breaching a good behaviour order.

He also faces two family violence charges of aggravated common assault and aggravated property damage.

The man is expected to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday.
