Police arrest man over four thefts

A 28-year-old man from Ngunnawal is facing charges of multiple property offences following four separate incidents of theft, police say.

On August 6, a credit card from a wallet allegedly stolen from a car in Ngunnawal was used by the man at a petrol station in Casey. The man also allegedly attempted to pay for a taxi which failed.

Police say that on August 27, the man met with a person who was selling an iPhone Pro Max. The seller was allegedly shown a fake screenshot of the bank transfer before the man left with the phone.

On August 31, the man allegedly didn’t return from a test drive of a yellow Suzuki motorbike.

And in a fourth incident on September 20, the man organised to meet a person selling an electric scooter. The alleged offender took the scooter for a test ride, but never returned to pay for it. The seller contacted the man who provided a fake screenshot of the bank transfer and never received any money.

Police searched the man’s residence in Ngunnawal on September 23 and found stolen identification cards and the missing Suzuki motorbike and e-scooter.

On Monday police arrested him at home.

He is charged with obtaining property by deception, two counts of theft, ride/drive a motor vehicle without consent and unlawfully possessing stolen property.
