Motorcyclist dies after hitting parked truck

A 29-year-old motorcyclist has died after slamming into the rear of a parked truck in Mitchell just before midnight on Saturday.

The Taylor man is the seventh road fatality for 2025 and the third involving a motorcycle.

Police and emergency services were called to Sandford Street, Mitchell, alerted by the motorcycle and the rear of a parked B-double semi-trailer being on fire. The rider died at the scene.

Businesses in Sandford Street are being asked to review CCTV vision from late Saturday evening immediately before and after midnight, and if footage of a motorcycle rider is observed, contact should be made with police.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to contact the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
