Ramsay faces charge of grooming teenage boy

Gordon Ramsay.

Former ACT attorney-general Gordon Ramsay, 61, faced the ACT magistrates Court on Thursday having been arrested and charged on Wednesday night with grooming a teenage boy he had been mentoring.

Police searched his Latham home and car on Wednesday night, seizing electronic devices.

The 61-year-old former Labor politician was charged with encouraging the boy to commit an act of a sexual nature.

Police say that in 2022, Mr Ramsay allegedly contacted the teen and offered to mentor him. They allege he continued contact with the boy between 2022 and 2024.

During Ramsay’s bail application, police said they believed there may be other alleged victims.

Mr Ramsay, an MLA between 2016-2020 and currently CEO of the Cultural Facilities Corporation, was bailed on strict conditions to not approach witnesses, to remain in Canberra, report regularly to the police and surrender his passport.

The case returns to court in December.
