Exhibition remembers Wendy Christian’s art

The late Wendy Christian.

On Saturday, a small group of artists from Googong and Burra will honour the late Wendy Christian, a much-loved local personality and long-time resident of Burra, with an exhibition of her work at St Paul’s Church, Googong.

Tarnya Christian stands beside a selection of her late mother’s artworks.

Described by friends as a private but deeply thoughtful person, Christian was among the first local students to travel to the US on exchange as a teenager.

She spent most of her life in Burra before settling in Googong a few years ago, where she tended a flourishing garden and continued to paint prolifically.

After her death at home three weeks ago, her daughters, Tarnya and Belinda, uncovered a treasure trove of her artworks. These will now be offered for sale, with all proceeds going to support domestic violence charities – a cause close to the family’s heart.
