A 34-year-old Lyons man, who was subject to an arrest warrant, has been caught following a police pursuit through Weston Creek early on Wednesday.

Police patrolling in Waramanga encountered a silver Holden Commodore sedan at around 4.20am. The Commodore driver ignored police directions to stop and took off.

Police say that during the pursuit, the Commodore crossed to the wrong side of the road, exceeded the speed limit and repeatedly drove without headlights.

Police used stop sticks and the Commodore eventually stopped after colliding with a stop sign near Cooleman Court. The vehicle was driving on its rims when it hit the sign.

The driver was arrested. A female passenger was also arrested at the scene.

The man was charged with aggravated reckless driving, driving while disqualified and failure to stop for police.
