Drugged teen driver caught in stolen BMW

Two teen boys have been arrested following multiple pursuits in a stolen BMW SUV through the inner north overnight. The 16-year-old driver has been charged with driving under the influence of drugs.

Between Thursday night and Friday morning the white BMW was stolen from a home in Amaroo.

Throughout Friday afternoon, police received multiple Triple Zero calls reporting the vehicle for driving dangerously including travelling at high speeds, moving through traffic and failing to stop at traffic lights.

At about 11.10pm on Friday police located the vehicle and tried to stop it. The teen driver accelerated away on the Barton Highway in Crace.

Shortly after, police sighted the vehicle on Ellenborough Avenue, Lyneham, and again the vehicle failed to stop.

By 11.30pm, police successfully used a tyre-deflation device on the Barton Highway, Crace, directing the driver to pull over but he didn’t.

The BMW finally came to a stop in Palmerston where the driver and a 14-year-old passenger attempted to flee on foot but were arrested by police.

The 16-year-old boy underwent an oral fluid analysis that returned a positive result for methylamphetamine. He has been charged with three counts of failing to stop for police, three counts of dangerous driving, driving a motor vehicle without consent, driving under the influence of drugs and driving unlicensed.

The 14-year-old was found to have breached a good behaviour order, and he has also been charged with riding in a motor vehicle without consent.
