Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s character has been called into question in the latest Newspoll.

Mr Albanese has been found to be the weakest prime minister Australia has seen in decades, while Opposition Leader Peter Dutton is considered to be the stronger and more decisive leader, the poll conducted for The Australian has found.

Mr Albanese’s strong and decisive rating fell five points to 44 per cent, while Mr Dutton’s remains on 60 per cent.

It is the lowest score for a sitting prime minister since the question was first asked 16 years ago and the highest enjoyed by an opposition leader in a decade.

Mr Albanese’s handling of the cost-of-living crisis, social unrest and inflation has unsettled his reputation with voters.

However, he was still ranked as less arrogant than the Liberal leader.

Mr Dutton has maintained his lead on measures including experience, vision and an understanding of what is of concern for voters.

Despite these ratings, Mr Albanese remains the preferred prime minister, according to the results of the poll.
