Man arrested over fake receipts for online deals

Police have arrested a man who they allege produced fake electronic transaction/transfer receipts when attempting to buy vehicles and other items of value on line.

They say that only in some of the cases were the items returned when the sellers did not receive the expected funds.

Police say anyone selling items online should not hand over goods until a payment is properly received. “Never rely on images or copies of ‘receipts’ provided by the buyer. Bank cheques and cash can also be requested as suitable payment options,” the police say.

Investigations into the arrested man’s activities are continuing and at this time no charges have been laid. However, police are urging anyone who believes they have been a victim of a similar incident to call 1800 333000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
