CAPITAL Arts Patrons’ Organisation has announced 22 award winners in its 39th annual grants round.

The CAPO Fellowship has a value of $15 000 and was awarded to multidisciplinary Queanbeyan artist Mariana del Castillo who will use the fellowship to develop textile and paper wall constructions exploring the marks left by industry on the landscape for exhibition at the Shoalhaven Regional Gallery and NERAM 2023.

Among the named awards, the inaugural Mandy Martin Art & Environment Award went to Anna Madeleine Raupach who will use the award for “The Forecast Factory,” while The Rosalie Gascoigne Memorial Award was presented to Nicola Dickson to develop and produce artworks for exhibition at Wagga Wagga Regional Gallery concerning the extensive loss of box gum grassy woodlands.

The Robert Foster Memorial Award was presented to Sean Booth to develop a new range of titanium jewellery for limited run production.

The Foundation Award was awarded to Bryan Foong for an arts/science residency at SymbioticA. Yusuke Takemura was awarded for the acquisition of materials and tools to develop new carved glass works.

The Craft ACT Outstanding Practice Award went to Ximena Briceno, while Belco Arts Inclusion Award went to John Brookes who will use it towards a satirical exhibition.

SA Adair was awarded for a project that explores the sculptural processes of casting and embossing and Madisyn Zabel was awarded for an upcoming exhibition at Craft ACT.

Hannah Gason received an award to purchase specialist lighting equipment and materials to develop new installation works and the joint winners of the Performance Award were Luminescence Chamber Singers and Juliet Moody.

Lee Leibrandt was awarded a grant to weave a series of tapestries, the Creative Writing Prize was awarded to Lucy Alexander for a collection of prose poetry and an Emerging Artist Award went to Melinda Heal to create dyed works using katazome on layered paper.

Another Emerging Artist Award went to Michael Lawrence-Taylor, who will produce a short documentary, and Molly Kamenz, Lea Durie and Solomon Karmel-Shann also won  Emerging Artist Awards, as did Alison Ford and Jonathon Zalakos, who will use the award to purchase hammer-forming equipment.
