POLICE officers in Queanbeyan must have had their first COVID-19 jab by the end of the month if they wish to keep working.
As cases of the delta strain spike across the state, the NSW Police Force announced this week that vaccines are now compulsory for its employees.
By the end of September all NSW Police staff must have had one dose, of any vaccine, and their second dose by the end of November.
About 17,000 police employees across the state have already been fully or partially vaccinated.
Corporate Services deputy commissioner Karen Webb says the risk of transmission, as well as the consequences of exposure of the virus, posed a substantial risk to all staff.
“The only way to face that risk is by ensuring that COVID-19 vaccines are administered to all staff.
“When we have full vaccination, we can ensure we provide a safe workplace for all.”
Evidence of vaccination will be recorded across all NSW Police systems.
Vaccine exemptions will be available for medical or other valid reasons.
