DARAMALAN Theatre Company is staging Shakespeare in cabaret style with “Troilus and Cressida”, a surprisingly up-to-date play set around the Trojan War. McCowage Hall, 121 Cowper Street, Dickson, 7pm, April 22, 26, 27, 28 and 29. Bookings at Humanitix.
“AND… Breathe”, the screening of five dance films inspired by a connection to nature and the power of art to instigate change, will be at the National Film and Sound Archive, 6pm-7pm, April 22, World Earth Day. The films are “Aunts on Scooters”, “Renewable”, “Goodbye Industrialist”, “Hello Circulist” and the premiere of “And… Breathe”, a cross-community collaboration with filmmaker Sue Healey. The evening includes a Q&A with cinematographer Jim Lounsbury.
THE exhibition “Model Modern: Iconic Design at Miniature Scale” showcasing Canberra’s mid-century history is showing as part of the 2023 Canberra and Region Heritage Festival, at Manning Clark House, 11 Tasmania Circle, Forrest, 11am-2pm, April 22, 23 and 29.
NEW documentary, “The Giants” is a portrait of activist and former senator Bob Brown and Tasmania’s ancient forests, the film will release in Australian cinemas on April 20 in line with Earth Day on April 22. The film explores the intertwined fates of trees and humans, seen as Brown takes green politics to the centre of power.
CAHOOTS Lab continues pace with “Dream Space (VI)” with artist Michele Grimston working in an open space for creativity. Edith Room, Dear Prudence (next to Verity Lane Market) 11am-3pm, Saturday, April 22, free. Then there’ll be “Third Run Cinema”, curated by Hannah de Feyter, featuring experimental, arthouse and classic world films otherwise unavailable to view or stream (legally) in Australia. - TURKISH-Australian opera singer Ayşe Göknur Shanal will join pianist John Martin to present “Gallipoli Songs”, works by Australian, Turkish and NZ composers at the Ovations auditorium, Orana Steiner School, Weston, 7pm, April 22.
- A 10-piece band will be perform a Motown tribute, “Dancing in the Shadows”, Harmonie-German Club, Narrabundah, 7.30pm, April 22.
- SEATTLE four-piece band Mudhoney, pioneers of the late ’80s early ’90s grunge explosion, will be at Kambri, ANU 7.30pm, April 23.
- GROOVIN’ the Moo will be at Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC), April 23.
- WESLEY’s Wednesday Lunchtime series has Kyle Ramsay-Daniel performing on unaccompanied double bass in his first concert in this series. Wesley Music Centre, Forrest, 12.40-1.20pm, April 26.
