Teenager seriously injured in Conder shooting

A teenager has been seriously injured after a man allegedly fired a gun at a car carrying four teenagers in Conder on Friday night.

A 29-year-old Gordon man, who was on parole, has been charged with using a firearm to endanger human life.

Police allege the four teenagers were travelling in a red Ford Falcon along Abrahams Crescent and Beaumaris Street, Conder, about 10pm when they encountered a red Hyundai i30 hatchback.

The Hyundai allegedly followed the Ford along Tom Roberts Avenue to the intersection of Box Hill Avenue and Tharwa Drive, where its driver fired at the Ford, striking a teenager in the back seat.

The occupants called police and were directed to Tuggeranong Police Station, where officers provided first aid to the injured teenager before he was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police established a crime scene in Conder and, about 11.30pm, saw a man emerge from bushes in Greaves Place and get into a waiting red Audi.

A short time later, the Audi was found parked outside the man’s Gordon home, where he was arrested.

Police are appealing for witnesses and dash-cam footage from Conder and Banks about 10pm on Friday, particularly around Abrahams Crescent, Beaumaris Street, Tom Roberts Avenue, Box Hill Avenue, Tharwa Drive and Pockett Avenue.

They want to hear from anyone who saw a red Hyundai i30 or red Ford Falcon, as well as Beaumaris Street residents with CCTV footage.

Contact police via 1800 333000 or the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
