Three people are dead after two Hyundai hatchbacks collided head on Kings Highway, Monga, an hour southeast of Queanbeyan on Monday evening.
Police report that one of the hatchback drivers and two passengers died at the scene. They are yet to be formally identified.
Another passenger of that vehicle was treated at the scene before being flown to hospital in a critical condition.
The driver and passenger in the other vehicle were also treated at the scene by paramedics for serious injuries and transported to hospital.
A crime scene has been established and the Kings Highway, Monga east of Braidwood is closed in both directions near Tudor Valley Road, and at Clyde Mountain Road, Batemans Bay. Motorists are urged to avoid the area as the road is expected to be closed for several hours.
