About 30 Qantas jobs in Canberra could be axed under a restructuring plan by the national carrier.
Qantas has told its employees that it is considering closing the QantasLink Canberra base, which would result in pilots and flight attendants no-longer being required in the ACT.
The Australian and International Pilots Association is monitoring the move, saying it would lead to a massive disruption for families, while workers would have to consider becoming effectively a FIFO worker.
The Transport Workers Union is concerned, if the plan is approved, it could lead to more cancellations for Canberra flights
ACT independent senator David Pocock says he’s deeply concerned about the move while Labor senator Katy Gallagher says the federal government will talk with the TWU about the potential for job losses and future services for the national capital.
