Man’s finger severed by sword in fight with neighbour

A 53-year-old Oaks Estate man is accused of using a sword during a fight with a neighbour, which left the other man with a severed finger.

Police were called to George Street on Wednesday evening after reports of two men fighting.

One of the men had serious injuries to his right index finger. Police say paramedics treating the man reported that the top half of that finger was completely severed. He was subsequently taken to Canberra Hospital.

Police arrested the neighbour of the man, who they will allege made partial admissions to the attack. Police will further allege the man used a sword during the fight, which resulted in the injuries to the victim.

The man was charged with recklessly inflicting grievous bodily harm.
