Assaulted woman tries to flee moving vehicle

A red Toyota Corolla being driven erratically by a man with a woman hanging out of the door in Harrison early on Saturday afternoon was reported to police.

As a result, a 35-year-old man has been charged with assaulting his partner in a moving vehicle, breaching a family violence order and evading police.

Police allege the man also struck the woman while driving before she managed to get out of the vehicle.

Late on Monday morning the same car was spotted by police in Watson. The driver was instructed to pull over but he drove off on to the wrong side of the road.

The car was later located in Crace, where the man crashed into a parked car during a pursuit with police before he was arrested in Palmerston.

He faces court charged with 29 offences, including three counts of contravening a family violence order, two counts of aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm, forcible confinement, and driving with a prescribed drug in oral fluid.

Police are appealing for witnesses who saw the red Toyota Corolla or the man and woman around Throsby or Harrison on January 25. Call 1800 333000 or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
