Smashed and crashed: driver six times over the limit

A 39-year-old man from Ngunnawal, more than six times over the legal alcohol limit, had his licence suspended immediately on Saturday night.

Police say that at about 8.30pm they responded to reports of a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Mirrabei Drive and Bernard Heinze Avenue, Moncrieff.

The driver of a black Holden Commodore – one of the vehicles involved in the collision – attempted to walk away from the area when police approached him.

A roadside alcohol screening test returned a positive result and he was subsequently tested again at Gungahlin Police Station where he recorded a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) reading of 0.306 – more than six times the legal limit.

The 39-year-old was issued an Immediate Suspension Notice, suspending his ACT drivers licence for 90 days, and will appear in the ACT Magistrate’s Court on a charge of drink driving.
