THREE Australian theatre and architectural design firms have been invited to submit a tender for the Canberra Theatre redevelopment project.
Architectus, DesignInc and Hassell have been named as the shortlisted tenderers to participate in the next leg of the process. Following an evaluation process, it is expected the successful consortium will be appointed by mid-2023.
Projects undertaken by Architectus include the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art and the redevelopment of the State Library Victoria. It has also partnered with Danish architects Henning Larsen on Harpa Concert Hall in Reykjavik, Iceland and the Royal Danish Opera, Copenhagen.
DesigInc recently completed work on “Phive,” Parramatta’s new civic hub and library, will work with international firm Zaha Hadid Architects.
Hassell is the architect behind the Sydney Theatre Company and refurbishment of the ANU Birch Building and will partner with international design studio Snøhetta, known for its work on the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet and the Times Square redevelopment.
The renewed Canberra Theatre Centre will include a new lyric theatre and enhancement of the current facilities to allow international, national and local performances, concerts and events.
