CANBERRA Girls Grammar School (CGGS) will soon celebrate a century of educational  excellence, connection and opportunity. 

“Located within a kilometre of Parliament House, and minutes to Australia’s national institutions, embassies, federal government departments and more than 50 museums and galleries, CGGS is  perfectly positioned to provide students with opportunities to develop the skills and attributes of  contributing citizenship,” said school principal Terrie Jones. 

“Two such opportunities came recently, when CGGS students attended a series of incredibly engaging and aspirational events headlined by a group of world-renowned, trail-blazing women. 

“Senior students attended MANA WĀHINE, an event designed by the NZ High Commission with  the support of ANU, to celebrate women of strength and leadership. 

“The impressive panel, expertly moderated by ABC journalist, Laura Tingle, featured Dame Jacinda Ardern, former prime minister of NZ; Julie Bishop, ANU Chancellor and a former Australian foreign  minister; Rena Owen, international award-winning NZ actor and Bronte Campbell, Australian dual  Olympic gold medallist and world champion swimmer. 

“As the only school in Canberra with representation at the event, the student ambassadors appreciated the significance of the evening.” 

To continue their immersive experience, several students joined a breakfast event the next day that  again featured Dame Jacinda Ardern as a keynote speaker, said Mrs Jones.

CGGS students gathered backstage to meet with Dame Jacinda where she shared leadership insights, engaged with the girls about their motivations and encouraged them to be brave and curious. 

“Every day we witness the fearlessness of our students, as they navigate challenges – both big and  small,” said Mrs Jones. 

“It makes a significant impact on their aspirations to be able to see examples of courage and  determination in pioneering women from across the world, who have reached astounding heights of  leadership, all whilst balancing ambition with empathy. 

“With a century of world-class education at its foundation and limitless opportunities to discover  purpose and make an impact, CGGS empowers students to grow into someone that exceeds even their  own expectations. 

“The CGGS Open Day is on August 31. It is our last opportunity for 2023. Visitors will experience in-person an innovative, supportive community that empowers students to become resilient, capable and  courageous.”
